In January 2011 the Australian Seventh-day Adventist Church hosted the Under Oath Pathfinder Camporee in Toowoomba, Queensland. Under the direction of program producer Moe Ioane Stiles, we produced this 3 minute pre-roll to the night meetings. The week was centred around the story of Josiah and the key was following God with all your Heart, Soul and Strength.

Parts of this video were filmed in pouring rain. Little did we know when we filmed this that a week later some of the places you see would be engulfed by a flash flood that would claim the lives of some 35 people. Despite the extremely wet conditions, the event was a success and we were proud to have been involved.

This was the project that caused me to switch to Premiere Pro as all my cameras were filming in AVCHD or H.264 codecs that Final Cut could not keep up with.

The down side of shooting a sunrise in summer is that you have to get up so very early, but it was worthwhile. I was planning to film the sunrise from Pearl Beach near Umina, but I was too slow in getting out of bed so went to Terrigal instead.

Shot on a Canon 7D with a Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8.

While over in the Philippines we visited Lake Sepu (also spelt Lake Sebu) which is about an hour from where my stepmother lives. I wish I could have spent more time there to capture more of its beauty but as tends to be the case when travelling with lots of people, the interest in what the videographer wants isn’t a high priority.

Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy the scenery that I could catch. Feel free to comment below.

Last month I was blessed with the opportunity to go to the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. My first time north of the equator and in the tropics, it was an amazing cultural learning experience.

The main reason for my visit was my dad’s marriage to a lady from the region and he had asked me to film his wedding. Before I got there though, dad had taken delivery of a shipping container full of tables and chairs that had been donated by a number of private schools in Australia. Dad had been working for a few months on getting the container packed and shipped so I suggested we put together a video to thank the donors.

So this is just a small expression of thanks to the many people who helped supply the equipment now being used by the students at Banga SDA Elementary School. As a result of the new tables and chairs, enrolment at the school has gone up.

Please excuse the poor audio, I didn’t have any audio recording equipment with me.

A few weeks ago Brett asked me to help make a music video that would help him increase his exposure as a musician and promote his EP “Links in the Chain”. We wanted to create something that people would remember and perhaps even talk about. After a few ideas we settled on a beach sunrise shoot and the autumn leaves.

The weather wasn’t on our side as it rained for about a week leading up to the shoot and was forecast to continue raining for another week. After a bit of discussion and me checking on the weatherproof capabilities of my camera we decided to go ahead regardless of the weather. Fortunately the day we did shoot was fairly pleasant with no rain.

Probably the most memorable part of the shoot was when the CD player Brett had borrowed to play the guide track got dunked by a breaker. I wish I had caught that on camera!
